Metallic ink screen print on paper and laser cut . 11 Prints - 12" H x 9" W each - Edition of 3 each. 2016.
Graphic exploration of the idea of identity created by occupying someone's place:
In an over-saturated world of information and constant broadcasting where our identity is more and more defined by and communicated through what we "like" on social media, what happens when this need to define ourselves through our preferences is expressed by ‘taking the shape” or “occupying the space” of the thing or person we like? When we start to compare ourselves to our perception of somebody else’s ideal self and try to “fit into that space”, there’s always a negative space, something that doesn’t fit. A space in-between that is not yours or theirs but a new space, a new shape: Is this negative space the only thing truly authentic?
Here, the new shapes that came from the collages in In-Between Cards-Object are used to create a new language of 8 suits and an entire new design of a deck of cards. Oversized prints of these new cards in Metallic Copper and Silver ink with Laser cut on paper.
"In-Between Cards - Prints" has been part of "Impressions 2018 National Juried Printmaking Exhibition" at Sarah Silberman Art Gallery, January 23 - February 16, 2018 and of "Stand Out Prints Exhibition" at Highpoint Center for Printmaking, September 7 - October 6, 2018.
